Once a small fishing village, Quarteira has developed into one of the top resorts in the Algarve since the boom of the 70s/80s. With a long, sandy beach running all the way to Faro, Quarteira is mostly popular with beachlovers during the summer months with golfers heading to the area in the low season.

The long lively promenade along the beach boasts a number of shops and is bordered by rustling palms, flowering hibiscus and pink and white oleander. In the evening this walkway is filled with couples and families inspecting restaurant menus for the seafood specialities or just taking a stroll in the balmy night air.

Being within easy reach of the championship golf courses at Vilamoura and Vale do Lobo, Quarteria is popular with golfers year-round. 15km inland the town of Loule makes an excellent excursion, its beautiful architecture and weekly Gypsy market (Saturday) drawing visitors from around the Algarve.
