The bright lights of Las Vegas have been famous for decades, but the Vegas of today is very different to the Vegas of 20 years ago. The 90s saw a flurry of destruction and construction as the old casinos were pulled down to make way for a new breed of resort – shiny bright, and painstakingly themed.
The Strip
The majority of the sights in Las Vegas are, of course, its spectacular casinos and most of these are packed along Las Vegas Boulevard, aka the Strip. This is the Las Vegas of legend. Every visitor to Vegas should walk four-mile length the length of the strip at least once while they are there, stopping to look around, have a bite to eat, take in a show, and perhaps visit a blackjack table or two.
Nightlife
Las Vegas is very much an adult city – a Disney World for grownups if you like – and the night-time entertainment is geared towards an adult audience. Any day of the week shows of every variety from magic demonstrations to full blown extravaganzas are put on by the casinos, which between them can provide more than 100 shows a night. The partying scene in Vegas is well catered for by uber-cool `ultralounges`, where the beautiful young things go to play.
